This year our Festival of Archaeology (Homepage Council for British Archaeology (archaeologyuk.org) theme is Archaeology and Creativity.

Archaeology at its heart is a creative process. It’s about exploration and imagination, it’s visual stimulation and inspiration; it’s the process by which we create memory and meaning. By drawing on innovative technologies and using a wide range of tools archaeology helps us think about the world we live in.

Archaeology is about storytelling and archaeologists use creative practices such as art, music, creative writing, poetry and theatre to bring to life the material we uncover and the stories of the places and people around us.

Have you ever wondered what archaeologists really do? Do they just dig or are there other aspects to their work?

A Day in Archaeology showcases ‘a day in the life’ of archaeologists from all over the UK.

This year’s event takes place on Thursday 27 July and is sponsored by Prospect.

Throughout the day archaeologistsheritage professionalsstudents and volunteers share blogs talking about a day in their life. You might be surprised to see just how many opportunities there are to get involved in archaeology from fieldwork to the science labmuseums to building sitesthe possibilities are endless. Our contributors will also share the paths they took to get to where they are now. Find out how their careers developed, why they chose to study archaeology or how they got involved in volunteering.

Blog posts are uploaded throughout A Day In Archaeology and stay on the Festival website site all year round to form a developing resource for anyone interested in a career in archaeology or wanting to find out more about the range of opportunities to participate.
